Now into the sixth year in our community, the Open the Book (OtB) is a Bible Society project which offers primary school children an opportunity to hear key Bible stories, from a team of Christians from local churches, who present the stories during assemblies/acts of Collective Worship. Due to the COVID virus, this activity has been suspended. When it restarts, the schedule will be posted in the Newsletter and on the website.
Each presentation takes around 10–15 minutes and can be incorporated into a wider school assembly or can stand alone. It is a three-year rolling programme with an additional, but optional year of material based on Christian Values for schools.
Over the past year we have been into the schools, and helped by many pupils, have read and acted 11 stories using Bob Hartman’s Storyteller Bible. The children thoroughly enjoy the stories and love participating. The teachers too are always appreciative of our visits which makes the storytelling feel so worthwhile.
OtB is one of the ministries of the Bible Society and fulfils both OFSTED and the Church School Inspectors requirements.
